How to Create a Profile Picture Frame for Your Campaign
Design a transparent PNG frame, test the photo cutout, and publish a Framvo campaign that supporters can use without creating an account.
To create a reusable profile picture frame, design a PNG with a transparent space for a person's photo. Upload the frame to a Framvo campaign, add a preview photo, and share the campaign link. Each supporter can choose their own photo, adjust it behind your design, and download the result without making an account.
The frame artwork and the finished profile picture are different files. Keep the transparent artwork as your master: uploading a finished picture with someone's face already in it will not give other supporters a space for their own photo.
1. Design around the photo#
Start with a square canvas in an image editor that can export transparent PNGs. For a first design, a 1080 × 1080 canvas is a practical starting point, not a Framvo upload requirement.
Place your campaign name, logo, and decorative elements around the edge. Leave a generous opening in the middle. A narrow border with a short message is usually easier to fit around different portraits than a large banner crossing the face.
Try this design brief for a fictional community event:
- Message: “Community Garden Day.”
- Artwork: A green border with a small leaf illustration near the bottom.
- Photo area: A clear central opening with room for the face and shoulders.
- Details: Put the date, location, and participation instructions in the campaign description rather than squeezing everything into the frame.
Preview the design at the small size someone will see beside a comment or message. Also preview a circular crop: a logo placed in the square's corner may disappear when the destination app crops the image.
2. Export a genuinely transparent PNG#
Remove or hide the background layer, then export as PNG with transparency enabled. A white rectangle is not a transparent background. Neither is a checkerboard pattern that has been drawn into the image.
Before uploading, place your exported PNG over a colored rectangle in your editor. The color should show through the intended photo opening. If the center stays white, remove the opaque layer and export again.
For the Framvo web frame uploader, prepare:
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Frame file | PNG |
| Frame file size | Under 5 MB |
| Transparent area | At least 5% of the image |
| Shape | A square is recommended |
The transparency threshold is an upload check, not a design target. A frame with only a tiny clear hole may pass the check while still being difficult to use. Leave enough clear space for real portraits. See the frame image requirements for the full guidance.
3. Publish the frame as a campaign#
Sign in to Framvo and create a frame campaign. Upload your PNG, then choose a provided preview sample or upload a photo you have permission to use, then adjust its position behind the artwork.
Give the campaign a recognizable title and explain who it is for. Choose a readable campaign link that you can use consistently in invitations and social posts. The campaign creation walkthrough covers the form in detail.
4. Test the supporter experience#
Open the campaign link in a signed-out browser. Choose a different photo from the preview image, adjust its position and size, and download the result. Repeat on a phone before sharing widely.
Check that the face is visible, the message remains readable, and the downloaded picture looks right when selected as a profile photo. Framvo creates a downloadable image; supporters still choose where to upload or share it.
Fix common frame problems#
The frame covers the whole photo. The center is probably opaque. Test the exported PNG over a colored background and export with transparency again.
The artwork is too small to read. Shorten the message and increase the important text. Move event details to the campaign description.
The logo is cut off. Move it away from the corners and test a circular crop.
The upload is too large. Reduce unnecessary image dimensions or use PNG optimization that preserves transparency. Converting the master to JPEG will remove the transparent opening.
Share the campaign link#
Send supporters the campaign link together with one sentence explaining the action: “Choose your photo, adjust it inside the frame, and download your picture.” Link to the supporter guide if they need help.
For a coordinated launch, use our profile picture frame campaign checklist to plan the invitation, test the download, and decide how you will measure participation.

Create and Participate on Mobile#
You can publish using the website or mobile app. Supporters can use a phone browser without installing the app. On the web, downloads use the artwork's dimensions; the current app exports its aspect ratio up to 1080 pixels on the longest edge. Local drafts and Library images do not sync between devices. Read web and mobile differences for the controls and saving instructions.
